Sunday, August 28 – Summer Picnic and Uniform Swap

Q300 Summer Picnic

We invite you and your family for a fun, informal gathering with Principal Bill Biniaris and Q300 teachers on Sunday, August 28, 2015 from 2 to 5 pm at Rainey Park in Astoria.   We will meet near the playground at the southern end of Rainey Park, Vernon Boulevard at 34th Ave (south of Costco and Socrates Sculpture Park) in Astoria: http://www.nycgovpark s.org/parks/Q048.

Representatives from elementary school after-school programs Serious Fun and NYC Chess Kids and middle school after-school program Global Kids have been invited.   We will also have gently used Q300 uniforms for pay as you wish.

Please bring your own snacks/drinks, and feel free to bring some extra to share. Also, bring blankets, outdoor chairs, and games if you wish. If you have a portable food table, please bring that as well.

How you can Help

While this is a fairly laid back, BYO (food, drink, blanket/seating) type of event, we need some volunteers for the following tasks:

  • Setting up RSVP to assess number of attendees
  • Publicize event at various Q300 parent forums
  • Investigate indoor venues in case of rain
  • File for park permit (based on number of attendees)
  • Day of picnic – get there early to stake out shady areas, set up couple of tables, (if interested, though not mandatory) kids games and activities

Please let the PTA know (check your email from June 8th for [Volunteers needed] Help with Q300 summer picnic) if you can help out by Monday June 13, 2016. We recognize that you might be out and about in the summer, but at this point we are looking for a core group of volunteers to commit to this before school ends so that any pre-event work can be planned and implemented gradually over the summer.

Uniform Swap

Q300_2016SummerPicnic-UniformSwapDoes your child grow like a weed? Do their uniform pants, which seemed so big at the beginning of the year, now fit like shorts? Well, you can help defray the expense of buying new uniforms by participating in the uniform swap. You can start by donating any uniforms in good condition that your child has outgrown.

  • Please make sure all clothing is laundered and in good condition.
  • Please send the uniforms in with your student; we will have a uniform swap at the PTA general meeting on June 23.

We will also bring all donated uniforms to the summer picnic.

Schoola Clothing Drive

Q300_2016SummerPicnic-Schoola
There will also be a clothing drive to help raise funds for the school through Schoola. Schoola collects pre-loved women’s and children’s clothes, preps and sells them online, and gives 40% of the proceeds back to our school to help fund programs for our kids. As a rule of thumb, please send items in good shape that originally retailed for more than $15.

To Participate

To participate, please fill a bag (any bag- can be a grocery bag or trash bag) with gently used kids and women’s clothes (clean clothing in new or like-new condition) and bring to the picnic. There will be sign at the picnic to let you know where to drop off the bag. We will take it from there and ship the bags to Schoola to raise funds to support our school.

***If you have a car and/or would like to help with the clothing drive by taking back the bags of donated clothes to ship via USPS (labels/stickers will be provided), please contact your PTA grade/class representantive.***
