2016 Summer Read-a-Thon

We are thrilled and excited to launch the first school wide Summer Read-a-thon! Q300 is a community of learners and readers, and we continue our passion for books and knowledge into the summer months (while simultaneously raising money for our music program)!

In the next few days, you will be getting a read-a-thon packet, which includes Grade specific instructions and summer reading lists/log sheets, as well as pledge sheets for students! We have attached these here, but printed copies are also going home! Our goal is for each Q300 student to raise $50.00 (through sponsors far and wide) or to ask 10 people for donations!

We will have both paper pledge sheets as well as an online platform (that allows for collecting donations online), and we urge you to take 3 minutes to set up the latter immediately. The Event

The Q300 PTA cordially invites you and your family to join us on May 15th for the “Stepping Into Summer Dance Party and Silent Auction” at The Chian Federation in Astoria. Dance the afternoon away as our DJ spins family friendly tunes! An array of delicious food will be served so leave Sunday dinner to us! We will also be hosting a silent auction featuring tons of exciting prizes and raffling off fabulous gifts!
All proceeds will go toward providing continuous PTA-funded enrichment programs for our beloved students.

Join us in providing outstanding school-wide enrichment by becoming a Q300 Donor. Starting on March 1, 2016, we have 31 Days to reach our goal of 100% participation by every K, 1st, 2nd, 6th & 7th grade family — but we need your help.

Funds given now to the PTA will support Principal Willard’s goal to implement more enrichment, computers, teaching assistants, books, trips, classroom materials, and fund academic priorities into Fall 2016.

The Event

Please save the date for a fun and fitness-filled evening at the PS 17 campus on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 5:30-7:00pm. We will be co-sponsoring a Zumba-thon with the PS 17 PTA in the PS 17 campus gymnasium to raise money for a few necessary items (new microphone and benches) for the shared auditorium between the Q300 elementary campus and PS 17.

Boxtops for Education Collection Dates 2016

Boxtops for Q300 Collection Deadline: February 11th, 2016

The First Box Tops for Education submission deadline of 2016 is just around the corner. All submissions must be submitted by February 11th to be counted on this submission period. For more details on the Q300 Boxtops for Education program as well as instructions on how to sign up – click here.

Here’s how to participate

Please cut Box Tops from participating brands, attach to the Box Tops collection sheet, and send to the school in your child’s communication folder by February 11th OR bring them with you to the upcoming PTA meeting on January 29th. If you aren’t able to attach the tops to a collection sheet it’s not a problem! Please send/bring what you have in baggie.

Starting February 12th the Box Tops Coordinators will count, organize, and submit all of the Box Tops in order to make the next submission deadline. The organization distributes funds biannually so please continue to clip all year long. We will continue to collect Box Tops monthly and submit them according to the Box Tops for Education schedule.

Directions for Collecting and Submitting Box Tops

Clip Box Tops and make sure the date is visible and not expired
Count the Box Tops
Put them in an envelope or a Ziploc bag or on a Boxtops Collection Sheet
Label with the child’s name, teacher’s name, grade, & number of Box Tops
Send in your Ziploc bags, collection sheet(s) and envelopes in your child’s communications folder or bring them with you to the Q300 PTA Minions Movie Pajama Party on January 29th!

The Movie:

Minions: The Minions, breakout stars from “Despicable Me” and “Despicable Me 2” are presented in an origin story that showcases their unpredictable personality and physicality, and pairs them with equally memorable human characters. As it turns out, Minions have existed since the beginning of time. They have evolved from single (yellow) cell organisms into the familiar beings we know, and they live for a collective purpose: to seek out and serve the most despicable master they can find. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock leads the voice cast of the human characters as Scarlett Overkill, the world’s reigning super-villain of the 1960s.

2nd Annual Direct Appeal Underway

This year our student body has doubled in size! A big welcome to all the new Q300 families. We look forward to an even more successful Direct Appeal fundraising campaign as a result of our exciting growth. One of our biggest goals is to have certified teaching assistants in the Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms for the full school year. We’re currently at 20% of our fundraising goals for the 2015-2016 year.

Every family makes a difference

In order to thrive, it’s important for all Q300 families to contribute to the Direct Appeal. Full participation is important. Regardless of the size of your contribution it helps Q300 when every family contributes to this specific fundraising effort. Use our online donation page here and choose your giving level. Please share this message and the link to the donation page with your families and loved ones.

Funds raised in the Direct Appeal are the main source that pays for certified teaching assistants, engaging enrichment programs, special events, equipment and other critical items that will enrich your child’s learning experience at Q300. If there’s not enough money to pay for these specific programs, they will not happen…

– 4 certified teaching assistants for K and 1st Grade
– Theater and dance for all grades
– Early Learners music program
– Architecture program for 2nd grade
– Laptops, storage and charging stations for the middle-school
– Digital music production for the middle-school
– Funding of teachers’ wish lists
