“Stepping Into Summer” Party and Auctions a Success!
Despite the monsoon weather, and thanks to the tireless work of the Benefit Committee, a fantastic time was had by all at Q300’s Stepping Into Summer dance party and silent auction at Astoria’s Bohemian Hall on Sunday, May 31. The kids had a blast doing the Chicken Dance and dressing up for photo booth pictures. It was also wonderful to meet a number of incoming families who will be joining our big Q300 family in the Fall.
Local businesses donated 19 items for the silent auction. There was competitive bidding for many of the items so take note for the next one! The raffle items were especially exciting: Principal-for-a-Day, Lunch-and-Crafts-with-Jill and more.
The success of the online auction component of the event shouldn’t be ignored. That night at Bohemian Hall was so much fun it was easy to overlook it. The auction came to an end at 6PM Friday, June 5. It featured items donated by 57 businesses from all over the city.
Sixth Grade Model UN
On March 26-28 of this year sixteen Q300 students took the challenge of solving some of the world’s most complex problems. These Q300 sixth graders became United Nations delegates for the weekend to simulate the UN. They represented Sierra Leone on several Model UN committees. Under the advisement of Ms. Annette they prepared for this event by writing position papers, learning the rules of procedure and lots and lots of research. Delegates attended the opening ceremonies in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations and then set to work for three days of committee sessions and drafting of resolutions. They were able to take a break on Thursday night to walk to the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square for dinner.
Congratulations to the New Q300 Students for Fall 2015!
Offers are out, and it’s time to celebrate! Now that the you’ve overcome the last hurdle of the G&T process, we welcome you to attend our Stepping into Summer Party. Come mingle with parents and students of Q300. We’re here to help answer any questions you may have!

Q300 Profile on InsideSchools.org
Thank you to parents who offered to be interviewed by Insideschools.org for the review on Q300. The article provides an overview of our core values, academic focus, and Principal Willard’s philosophy. It also illustrates our culture and “a day in the life,” and discusses some of the PTA’s efforts to date in establishing foundational elements for the school. If you haven’t already, please have a look!
Our First Direct Appeal Campaign
Thanks to all the donors who made it a success
As announced at our most recent PTA meeting and pizza party, we managed to surpass our direct appeal goal! This is one more indication of a successful foundational year for Q300 and an engaged parent body. THANK YOU, parents, for your demonstrated participation and support for the school. We reached over 75% participation! In addition to having funded teaching assistants, library books, key enrichment programs and more, we are well positioned to kick off the 2015-16 school year. As we near the end of this school year, the PTA has begun planning and prioritizing for next year. Please keep an eye for the next enrichment program survey. Your input is valuable! The PTA looks forward to seeing everyone at the Stepping into Summer Dance Party and Auction in May!

Wine Tasting
Thanks for joining us at Astoria’s Bowery Bay!
Thank you, parents, for joining us for our winter warm-up wine tasting and food pairing event on February 24th! It was great to get Q300 parents together on an informal occasion. We had a wonderful selection of South American wines paired with delicious, small plates. Special Thanks to Melissa Cruz for organizing the event, getting so many of her friends and family to the event, and for getting the raffle donation. Also, thanks to Maria Hantzopoulos for helping sell raffles, Jasmine Rosner for setting up the PayPal page, Amy He and Blain Kennedy for creating the event webpage and Ingrid Kennedy for creating the flyer. And many, many thanks to Deni and Gary Anza of Bowery Bay for hosting and curating this special event!

The SLT plays a significant role in creating a structure for school-based decision making, and shaping the path to a collaborative school culture.
