Participatory budget (https://www.participate.nyc.gov/processes/ccdistrict22) is a chance for a community to spend 1 million dollars for physical infrastructure projects that benefit the public, cost at least $50,000, and have a lifespan of at least 5 years. For example, projects such as local improvements to schools, parks, libraries, housing, and other public spaces can be funded.
There are two types of projects, capital and expense. Capital projects should be 50k or more and be construction type. Expense projects should be at least 5k and designated for a non profit’s use for programmatic purposes.
Projects that have passed in the past include district wide water fountains and tech for schools, new school play yards, bus stop timers, dog park, district wide tree plantings and so on. All great projects proposals are voted on by community members like yourselves.
Please share this link with other parents. If you do not live in district 22, you can pick the district you live in and participate that way.
Don’t wait too long though, ideas are being gathered now through Sunday, January 23, 2022.
